Rooster tails at Cowes
The Powerboat P1 World Championship circuit was back in Cowes for the second year running over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Sunny skies and wind over tide made for a great spectacle for the crowds on and off the water.
Peter and Michael Delbridge were there to promote Boatshed Hamble, and give us this report :
The action is fast and furious, the boats are exciting and exotic be it the small one design Thundercats, the Honda 150 or 225 classes, the 2litre class boats right up to the P1 monsters, that include the Dragon (See similar boat).
The pits and Cowes Yacht Haven was the place to be and just as exciting as the monster trucks turned up from all around Europe with the pure exotica, accompanied by their support crews, drivers and throttle men.
The Medina river echoed once again to these monster marine engines being tuned and fettled in preparation to each day's racing. Out on the water the RYA did a great job in organising a large flotilla of committee boats to marshal all the spectator craft and keep everybody safe.
The great thing about Cowes as a location for this championship is that you can see just as much from the promenade as you can from the water. At the same time there is plenty of other activities and hospitality tents to keep the whole family amused.
What a great weekend, well done to the organisers, we will definitely be there again next year if they are back. Put it in your diary and we will see you there ?
Peter Delbridge.
